Southern Pacific and the Rock Island Railroad operated the ‘Golden State’ passenger trains. These trains ran between Chicago and Los Angeles. The streamlined cars with the vermilion red and silver entered service starting in January 1948. Both the SP and RI contributed matching sets of equipment for these trains.
